Registration Opens Monday, January 27th!

Lifeguard Training Registration 

Spring 2020 American Red Cross Lifeguard training classes are taught in March, April and May. Registration opens on Monday, January 27. The first 2 classes will take place during Spring Break.

*Candidates must pass the prerequisite swim test on the first day of class in order to continue with the course. The course registration fee is non-refundable, and will not be refunded in the event the class participant fails the swim test.*

Prerequisite Swim Test

  • 300 yard swim
    •  1 length = 25 yds, 300yds = 12 lengthsarc lg 2
    • May swim freestyle, breaststroke or a combination of both 
    • No portion may be completed on back or side
  • Tread water for 2 minutes, using only legs
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
    • Swim 20yds, surface dive to retrieve 10lb object, return to surface and swim 20yds on back to the starting point
    • Both hands are to hold the object and face is to remain at or near the surface
  • The 300 swim and 2 minute tread may be practiced at Gilleland Creek Pool.

    • Monday - Friday 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Important reminder: You MUST successfully complete the prerequisite swim test on the first day of your registered class. Course registration fees are non-refundable. You will only be allowed to transfer to a later session. For any questions, contact Whitney Seaton at or call (512) 990-6362.



Upon successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course, participants will be certified for two years in Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid/AED.

Completion of the course does not guarantee employment with the City of Pflugerville or any other entity requiring the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course.



Class Dates & Information

2020 class registration opens on Monday, January 27, 2020! Register online or in person at the Pflugerville Recreation Center.

Classes are being taught in a blended learning format with work completed online and during in-class skill sessions. There is a 7-hour online module consisting of videos and quizzes that must be completed by the 1st day of class. The link to access this module is emailed out at least 1 week prior to the first meeting date. Class participants must attend all days in the session for which you are registered.

Classes subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment of 6 participants  is not met.

Cost: $50 with a commitment to work for the City of Pflugerville, $200 with no commitment.
*The $50 Lifeguard Class Registration fee is only if you plan to work for the City of Pflugerville through Summer 2019. Otherwise, class participants will pay the full Lifeguard Certification course fee of $200. The course fee is non-refundable. For those that fail to successfully complete the prerequisite swim test or are unable to attend all 3 sessions of their registered course, you will be allowed to transfer class dates without additional fees.
