City Council discuss Lake Pflugerville Park, Lake, and Trail use hours

Post Date:07/25/2018 3:51 PM
On Tuesday, City Council listened to recommendations from the Parks and Recreation staff, Parks and Recreation Commission, and Police concerning Pflugerville lake, park, and trail use hours. At its July 17, 2014, regular meeting and again on July 19, 2018, the Parks and Recreation Commission discussed proposed changes to the hours for all parks, trails, and Lake Pflugerville with resistance to limiting access.

Noting that the current ordinance allows 24-hour access to the lake for trail use and fishing, the Council reviewed ways to clarify the Code of Ordinances to allow police more ability to monitor the lake and keep park users safe, while allowing public access for fishing and trails.

Council directed staff to return with ordinance wording to extend the current park hours of 5 a.m. - 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. - midnight and for the entire lake and trail to close to the public from midnight to 4 a.m. Before returning to City Council, the Parks and Recreation Commission will have a follow-up discussion and provide feedback.  Any proposed changes to Chapter 95 of the Code of Ordinances requires a public hearing and two ordinance readings.
